Could we have a league format in lichess? Each plays ALL the other players, then we can have a REAL vision of who is best player? Maybe have this side-by-side with other tournaments, but like an ongoing championship - chess equivalent of football premier league...
It's very difficult to co-ordinate on-going tournaments. People have commitments, they speak different languages and are from different time-zones.
To plan an online tournament over month, or year long periods takes a lot of commitment. But people lose interest, they drop out, or simply don't show up. Then the whole thing turns into a failure.
Such a system would be nice, but it's not ideal. It's much better to have regularly scheduled tournaments that people compete in when it suites them best. There should be more tournament formats coming out in the near future (i.e. Swiss), but nothing that spans longer than a few hours.

Tournaments with rating range option? Open or create.
Additional, regularly scheduled tournaments for each ELO class (... advanced, expert, master ...) would be very interesting IMO.
