Bughouse

Bughouse should really be done here. There is no good place to play online, and it would attract a lot of players to the site.

The rating scheme may be difficult, but worst case scenario, there doesn't need to be one.
This has been brought up multiple times. I think the general consensus among the dev team is that there is not enough server capacity for it (likely the same reason why "there is no good place to play online" as you say). I could be mistaken, though.
I agree with you adakell! There really should be bughouse on Lichess
There is dedicated bughouse server, allowing to play bughouse from browser:

http://bughouse.4smart.cz

However, it is currently mostly empty so you need 4 players to play. Alternatively, one player can play for both boards.

#2, it's not about server capacity. Simply put, it's not feasible. It would basically require replacing chess.js and thus rewriting much of chessground, two crucial components used for rendering chessboards, chess moves, and basically anything related to that. It would require a very large backend refactoring as well, being a 4-player variant.

Thibault loves bughouse and regularly plays it over the board. But it would require an enormous effort at least on par with creating chessground itself, and then some.
Oh wow, I see Hellball. Thanks for the reply. Sounds like a gargantuan undertaking, then.
I think chessboard.js lets you do multiple boards, not sure about dropping pieces.
The bughouse server at bughouse.4smart.cz uses chess.js. It allows multiple boards and drops no problem, only it needed additional testing for checkmate (in bughouse it is different, can be blocked by a drop), but no big issue.
