Position in ranking

you can't be a champion with 1000 points
It's not an argument for me
but you can have a button in the preferences saying show ranking/don't show ranking.
so why don't they give you a ranking.
i'm a preety much of a bad player, but i want to know where am i in the ranking.
How so? How does it encourage cheaters when the top few players are listed and the players' ratings are shown in any case?

Rankings are an excellent way of measuring oneself vs opposition. Glicko2 is very subjective and actually not a good reflection of one's "ability". It is very dependent on the level of opposition.

I think the real reason they took away the rankings is that they wanted to keep all the different forms and time controls separate... and while it was straight forward for Thibault and co to sort out a single set of rankings, they either aren't able or can't be arsed to sort out a squillion sets covering each individual bizarre game variant.

As soon as proper chess rankings are sorted, the people who like the "blindfolded chess for 92 year olds where the pieces are randomly placed on the board" variant will want their own ranking!
