In many video games (like HOTS), as you start to die, the screen background color fades to red. I suggest a similar mechanic as your time runs out on lichess. The problem with the 10s notification is that:
* it's hard to get a feel for your exact time remaining (the color approach gives you that information with the shade of red)
* in a game with increment, you can be constantly jumping above the second warning and falling below it, and you stop noticing the 10s alarm
