Istanbul International Bughouse Open 2022 — November 26–27

Hi all! My promised international bughouse tournament has finally been confirmed! Hope to see you all there!

Here is the invitation:

*Date*

November 26, 2022 – November 27, 2022

*Location*

Swiss: Ottoperla Hotel, Istanbul
Knockouts: Istanbul Chess Club

Start time (Swiss): 12 PM
Start time (Knockouts): 10 AM

*Prizes*

First place team: $400 + Trophy
Second place team: $200 + Trophy
Third place team: $100 + Trophy
Fourth place team: $50
Best team with at least one female player: $150
Best team with at least one U18 player: $100

*Format*

Swiss: To be determined based on number of participants, but each round will consist of 4 games.

Knockouts: Quarter-finals: 8-game match
Semi-finals: 14-game match
Finals: 20-game match

*Tie-Breaks*

Swiss: In case of any tie for the qualification spots, a mini-round robin tournament will be played. For example, if the 7th-, 8th-, and 9th-place teams are tied, they will play a round robin tournament with the top two teams qualifying for the knockout phase. Each match in the mini-round robin tournament will consist of four games.

For seeding purposes, the Bucholz tie-break system will be the primary tie-breaker used. The secondary tie-breaker will be Bucholz cut 1.

Knockouts: If any match is tied, an extra two games will be played until one team wins both games (score difference of +2).

*Entry Fee*

$10 per participant

There will be no entry fee for players whose peak chess.com bughouse rating is over 2400.

*Accommodation*

The players are encouraged to stay at Ottoperla Hotel, Istanbul, which is offering discounted prices to the participants and is the site where the Swiss portion of the tournament will take place.

Single room: 65 € per night including VAT and breakfast
Double room: 70 € per night including VAT and breakfast

There will be free accommodation for players whose peak chess.com bughouse rating is over 2600.

*Weather*

The weather in Istanbul in November is cold with temperatures averaging 16 ºC during the day and 12 ºC at night. Some rainfall is expected in November.

Thanks so much for organizing this FischyVishy. I'll sadly be missing since it occurs over Thanksgiving Weekend in the United States. But I really appreciate you putting in the time, effort, and money to organize this.
