I am creating a Lichess Study that will contain all the positions from the School of Chess Tactics Volume 1 book as I use this book as part of my students' training. I did not get the positions in pgn format, nor did any other Lichess Study. So I'm scanning the book in PDF, converting the diagrams to FEN, and then copying it to the Lichess Study. It is an arduous task, can anyone give me some advice or help?

It might be easier to use the board editor lichess.org/editor to add the positions to your study as you need them.

There are some apps that let you scan a board and convert them to a FEN straight away. I just tried Chessify, it seemed to work well. You may also try chessvision.ai. I also found another link online to something called Chessputzer, which may be of use to you.
Chessify: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fimetech.chessfimee&hl=en&gl=US
chessvision.ai: chessvision.ai/
Chessputzer: www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~abhishek/putz/

Thanks for the ideas, but Derek sent me a pgn file with all the positions from that book (School Of Chess Tactics Vol 1).

This interactive chess ebook reader can help with that: ebook.chessvision.ai/ (I'm the author of it) and here's a video on how you can use it to select and copy diagrams from your PDF directly to Lichess Studies: www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=4&v=um9jiOl2hrI
