Sicilian Defense: Najdorf Variation, English Attack, Anti-EnglishBETA

White ensures black does not capture the valuable dark squared bishop. However, this move opts for for a repetition. By threatening f3, and then returning the bishop to e3 (gaining a tempo on the normal English Attack setup), black's best move is probably returning the knight to f6.

Rather than let white build up their strong kingside attack, black attempts to disturb white's normal f3, Bd2, Qd2, O-O-O setup before it gets off the ground. White can opt for an immediate three-fold repetition with Bc1 (after which white is threatening f3 and simply gaining a tempo on the main line), where the best move from black is to return the knight to f6. Alternatively, white can play on with Bg5 and allow black to expand on the kingside with h6-g5, leading to a fundamentally different position than the typical English Attack.
