Which is more logical 1.d4 or 1.e4?

Take a look at the bottom of page 199 in Winning Chess Openings by Yasser Seirawan.

1.d4 clearly gives more chances to reach this e4 + d4 centre in the long run, but this doesn't mean that you will have the advantage. See for example openings like the semi-slav or grunfeld.
